Night (Occlusal) Guards Brooklyn

Night Guards: Get the Protection You Need

Dental night guards are commonly used to protect teeth, gums, and supporting tissue from damage caused during clenching and grinding that occur during the day and/or night. Our customized night guards, designed in our partnering lab and fitted by Dr. Shah or Dr. Moses, fit snugly and comfortably.

Benefits of Using Downtown Dental Night Guards: Not One Size Fits All

Night guards help to alleviate the constant pressure and tension created in the TMJ (temporomandibular joint) which often lead to headaches, jaw pain, neck pain and facial pain. At Downtown Dental, we offer a variety of designs, depending on their specific needs of each of our patients.

The Process—What to Expect

It takes just 2 short visits of about 10 minutes each to obtain a night guard made just for you.

  1. The first visit—We take accurate impressions of your upper and lower teeth and a bite record that are sent to a professional dental laboratory where the precise information is used to create a mouth guard that will fit like a glove.
  2. The second visit—We check the fit of the custom night guard and review instructions with you regarding wear and care.

How do I know if I grind my teeth when I’m sleeping?

Your dentist and your partner may be the only ones to confirm that. During a consultation, Drs. Shah or Moses will be able to see signs of wear and tear on your teeth or even your gums if you’ve been grinding your teeth. Your partner may hear you at night if you have a consistent and intense habit of grinding.

Is there anything I can do to stop grinding my teeth?

Most of the time a habit like this is attributed to stress. Trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle, along with engaging in stress-relieving activities, such as yoga or meditation, may help. Ultimately, it is a very hard habit to break since it happens subconsciously

When will the night guard come back after my first visit?

Usually, it takes about 1 week for our customized night guards to return from our laboratory.

How do I care for my night guard?

We provide night guards and oral appliance cleansing tablets that you can use for soaking and cleaning your night guard. You can also use water and mild soap with a soft-bristle toothbrush to manually clean it on a daily basis.

How do I know if I need a new night guard?

Night guards usually need replacement if the surface is severely worn down, has broken through, or has cracked in many areas.
